Week 25: Repenting for disunity, unforgiveness and a critical spirit; seeking reconciliation

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life for evermore” (Psalm 133:1,3)

Unity, like the dew from heaven, brings spiritual refreshing and blessing. Disunity does the opposite. It dries the soul, withers spiritual life, and blocks the flow of God’s blessing. Anything contrary to the tender love of the Holy Spirit is devastating to spiritual growth. “The Holy Spirit is the gentle Spirit of perfect love. One of his roles is to pour the love of God into our hearts so that it can then flow out through our lives. We cannot afford to grieve his loving nature.” (Wesley Duewel p 87).

--Wesley Duewel, paraphrased by Neville Bartle, New Zealand

Prayer: Father, Your Word admonishes me to get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, slander, anything that would grieve the Holy Spirit. I ask You to show me by Your Holy Spirit any hidden sins and unforgiveness in my heart that are preventing Your Spirit from blessing, unifying, transforming lives through me. (Wait on the Holy Spirit and confess anything He shows you.) I repent of ___. I choose to turn to You to change my heart so I will be one who builds others up, who strengthens the unity of the Body of Christ with peace. Fill me, I pray, afresh with Your Holy Spirit and Your love so I will be kind and compassionate to others, forgiving them as You forgave me in Christ. Help me imitate You in my relationships for we are all Your dearly loved children. I pray this in Jesus’ name. amen. (See Ephesians 4:30-5:2)
