"Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise," says the Lord. "I will protect them from those who malign them." ~Psalm 12:5
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." ~John 10:10-11
Millions of children in Asia suffer from the effects of poverty as well as from the effects of ‘prosperity’ and godless or animistic worldviews. The issues of exploitation, abusive labour, trafficking, hunger, disease and death, cry out for Christian leaders’ attention and action. These issues threaten to be an ugly reversal of the ‘abundant life’ which Jesus came to give to all.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we come as Your followers living in Asia-Pacific to stand in the gap for the next generation of Christ-followers to choose to follow You while they are young. We ask You to sensitize hearts of local church members and children’s ministry workers in each of our districts to actively create and support child-safe churches and community centers and ministries. We ask that more people would become aware of the needs and potential of children and youth to reach the whole world with the whole gospel. We join our hearts and hands and voices to ask You for Asian churches, seminaries and Christian leaders to “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” (Prov. 31:8). Lord, help each of us to receive children as readily as You did, to take time to accept, affirm and encourage children and youth in our communities and churches. We pray this in Your name, for we believe children and youth are being anointed by Your Spirit as “agents for mission” to transform their own generation. Amen.
